THE OPPORTUNITY

Life Pointe Church has been around for almost 150 years, but underwent significant leadership changes 14 years ago. The leadership today is comprised of a strong and healthy group of Elders led by Pastor Cody Cannon. On an average Sunday, there are around 450 adults, 80 kids, and they have 15 weekly small groups. The Sunday service is a blend of modern worship and reimagined hymns. Their hope is to reach the city of Woodland, CA with the Gospel so that people who have grown up in the area, and those who are new to the community come to know Jesus and be a part of a neighborhood church.

Life Pointe is serious about planting churches. In 2022, they sent out fifty-seven adults to plant on the east side of town and that church just celebrated their first anniversary. They averaged 115 people in the first year as a church, which is a testament to their commitment to sacrifice for the sake of starting new churches.

The mission of Life Pointe is to be active in seeing people transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Their core values are:

THE COMMUNITY

Woodland, CA is a suburban town just outside of Sacramento with just over 70,000 people. New homes are being built constantly to account for the growing commuter population coming from the Bay Area and Sacramento region. Woodland borders Davis, a college town home to the University of California, Davis, where many of the members and congregants live. Politically speaking, Davis is passionately liberal, while Woodland is predominantly conservative, giving Life Pointe an exciting and dynamic mix of people. These polarizing views are well-represented in the congregation.

The historic downtown boasts many restaurants and a highly frequented coffee shop where a lot of community is built. There is a strong Latino presence and historically was largely Hispanic, though that seems to be changing the more that Woodland transforms into a suburban community.

Qualifications

Qualified as an Elder according to 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, and 1 Peter 5

Some theological training - but no degree required

Interest in teaching - some experience preferred, but expertise certainly not required

Heart for discipleship

Vision for a healthy, relational church

Capable of recruiting, training, and commissioning small group leaders

Innovative - not settling for the status quo, but willing to be creative to help the church connect and deepen relationships with one another
