Lifepointe Church

Position open:

Worship Pastor

THE OPPORTUNITY

LifePointe Christian Church is seeking its first full-time Worship Pastor, a leader who will take full ownership of the worship ministry and raise the level of excellence across worship, sound, and production. After the Lead Pastor, the Worship Pastor is the most visible leader in the church. This person will lead Sunday worship, build and shepherd volunteer musicians, vocalists, and tech teams, and create new moments of worship beyond Sunday morning. LifePointe is looking for a patient builder: someone who will listen and learn the culture first, then cast and carry out a clear vision in close partnership with Lead Pastor Phillip Murdock.

THE COMMUNITY

LifePointe Christian Church held its first service in 2006 and spent 15 years as a mobile church before buying a 10-acre horse farm in Toano, Virginia. The renovated campus opened in 2021. Worship now happens in a state-of-the-art space built inside the former riding arena, finished with wood salvaged from its own walls, and staff offices fill a 110-year-old farmhouse. Since moving onto the farm, attendance has grown from about 350 to about 850, with 200 to 250 kids each Sunday.

LifePointe’s DNA is intergenerational, relaxed, family-oriented, and modern with respect for tradition. If LifePointe were a person, it would drive an F-150 and eat at the local BBQ joint. The church is part of the Independent Christian Church movement, holds a high view of Scripture and conservative convictions held with grace, and offers three Sunday services with a livestream. Its mission is to help people follow Jesus, be changed by Jesus, join His mission, and help others discover Him.

The staff is relational and close-knit. They do ministry together, not in silos, with Monday morning staff meetings, birthday lunches, and staff retreats. The Lead Pastor sets a strong pace with high expectations, extends grace, and protects family time.

Toano sits in upper James City County, about 30 minutes from Richmond and 10 to 15 minutes from historic Williamsburg. The area is moving from rural toward suburban and is mostly middle class, more blue-collar than white-collar, and growing more diverse. Retirees and a fast-growing number of young families both call it home. Residents enjoy small-town living with easy access to Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, and the larger cities and coastline of Virginia.

Lead Sunday worship and develop other leaders to fill as needed

Recruit, audition, train, and develop volunteer musicians and vocalists, establishing a stronger, clear standard for the teams

04

Offer pastoral care to worship and tech volunteers, encouraging them in their spiritual health and growth

05

Lead a blend of contemporary worship drawn from popular and radio-played songs, with hymns woven in, where theological truth meets musical excellence and congregational engagement

The ideal Worship Pastor will have a deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a genuine passion for leading others in worship.

02

A strong, engaging vocalist who leads the congregation with confidence, leading from guitar or keys.

03

A proven leader who builds teams, raises standards, and owns the ministry’s direction. This should not be a first ministry role; the church wants someone who can lead its people, not be led by them.

Organized and administratively strong, with the ability to plan ahead and run a healthy weekly system.

05

A pastor’s heart for shepherding volunteers and caring for people well.

06

Working knowledge of sound, livestream, and production, and the ability to train others.

07

A track record of meaningful tenure, and a desire to put down roots and build for the long haul.

08

Agreement with LifePointe’s theological beliefs and the convictions of the Christian Church movement.
